چکیده
Manual wheelchair propulsion is a straining form of ambulation, both for the cardio-respiratory as well as the musculo-skeletal system. Wheelchair locomotion implies arm work in every other activity in daily life. Compared to leg work, wheelchair arm work is much less efficient and more straining, and subsequently leads to a lower work capacity. Underlying pathology may further influence performance capacity, as is illustrated by Mukherjee et al in the comparison of wheelchair dependent subjects with non-wheelchair users in this issue. In addition, hand rim wheelchair propulsion the most common form of manual wheelchair ambulation in the western world is overall a very inefficient mode of exercise due to the coupling/decoupling of the hand to the rim, the execution of the movement partly outside the visual field. In hand rim wheelchair locomotion task load and physical work capacity therefore often seem out-off balance.

von Willebrand factor (VWF) is a large plasma glycoprotein that exists as a series of multimers of molecular weight 800-20000 kD. VWF has two main functions: as a carrier protein for coagulation factor VIII and as an adhesive protein involved in vessel wall-platelet interaction. Its function as an adhesive protein is most important in situations of high shear stress. Inherited defects in VWF ma...

The bioavailability of drugs is determined by gastrointestinal physiological factors and the physicochemical property of drugs. The presence of food changes the physiological functions of gastrointestinal mucosa (e.g., gastric pH, gastric emptying, hepatic blood flow) which may lead to increase or decrease in the bioavailability of drugs. Intestinal absorption of penicillin, captopril, ciproflo...
متن کاملThe effects of adenosine injection after of brain ischemia reperfusion injury on gene expression of NF-kB/p65 and activity level of ROS in male Wistar rats
Background: Unit of p65 is one of the subunits of NF-κB and its phosphorylation by stress oxidative causes activation of NF-κB. The aim of present study was to investigate the effects of adenosine injection after brain ischemia reperfusion injury on gene expression of NF-κB /p65 and Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in hippocampus tissue of male wistar rats. Methods: 40 male wistar rats were rando...

متن کاملNuclear NF-κB p65 in Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells Correlates with Urinary MCP-1, RANTES and the Severity of Type 2 Diabetic Nephropathy
AIMS To investigate if nuclear NF-κB p65 expression in ex vivo isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells correlates with urinary MCP-1 or RANTES and the severity of type 2 diabetic nephropathy. METHODS According to their urinary albumin-to-creatinine ratio (uACR), 107 patients with type 2 diabetes (eGFR >60 ml/min) were divided into normal albuminuria group (DN0 group, 38 cases), microalbum...
